The Essence of New Orleans
For many New Orleans symbolizes a party city where most blacks come to celebrate the Essence Music Festival for the 4th of July. But for me New Orleans symbolizes coming together to celebrate family. My family barried my grandmother this past weekend, my last surviving grand parent. It’s been a tough time for us all but she is in a better place now. Finally at peace and pain free.
So much of my upbringing was here. From the Candy Lady down in Pontchartrain Park to Po Boys at Parkway Bakery to a late night family outing to Cafe DuMonde for some beignets to sitting around drinking (I’m a grown up now) & laughing reminiscing about life. My roots are here. This past weekend was a much needed reminder of how much love surrounds me in this city. My family is pretty freaking awesome and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
This dress that I found at Target seemed to be the perfect fit for a weekend filled with so much quality time. I wore it for over 8hrs and never was uncomfortable. The fabric was just so soft, I could of slept in it. As I’ve stated before please don’t sleep on Target!
To my beloved Myrea Bridges, continue to watch over me as you always have. I can picture that big smile of yours as you sit with your Man and your boys! Give Kizzie a big hug and kiss for me, I love you both so much. Until we meet again.
